Medicare Enrollment Periods Explained for Utah

Understand common Medicare enrollment periods in Utah, including turning 65, leaving employer coverage and annual opportunities to review plans.

Initial Enrollment Period

For most people, the first Medicare enrollment opportunity is tied to turning 65. The timing spans several months around your 65th birthday, but your effective date can depend on when you enroll.

Special Enrollment Periods

Certain life events—such as losing qualifying employer coverage or moving—may create a Special Enrollment Period. The event and coverage type determine what changes are allowed and when.

Annual Medicare plan review

Medicare Advantage and Part D plans can change from year to year. During applicable annual enrollment opportunities, review premiums, benefits, provider networks and prescription coverage.

Not every enrollment period allows every change

Different enrollment periods have different rules. Before making a change, verify that the enrollment period applies to your situation and that your new coverage effective date is confirmed.
